Main Goal:

Knowledge and permanent application of knowledge on the rights of persons with special needs in their everyday life and work

Background

In the teaching system of the Republic of Serbia, every teacher has obligation to permanently specialise and gain new knowledge and skills in his/her profession

The topics of seminars can be strictly professional in relation to subjects of teachers or general educational topics, such as methods of the application of information technologies in teaching.

Most frequently, teachers opt for a topic that is closely related to the subjects that they teach at school.

Structure and contents of subjects in Serbian schools is such that units referring to humanitarian problems in society and the methods of their solving are seldom and too generalised for students.

Issues related to the protection of human rights and freedoms and, in particular, the protection of minority rights, for instance problems of adults and children with special needs are almost not processed thereof.

There are many reasons for such insufficient affirmative approach to information and solving humanitarian problems in the society.

The most significant reason is the fact that majority of teachers has only general knowledge on the protection of the rights of person with special needs; therefore, he/she is reluctant to add humanitarian approach of the application of new knowledge and skills in their teaching, which will produce better and more human society

They are reluctant to explain positive examples of the application of new knowledge and skills, which they taught their students, in solving numerous humanitarian problems in the society, their family and local community.
